Our October “First Sunday” will financially assist Lutheran Services of Iowa (LSI)’s support for Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service’s resettlement services.

As an officially designated resettlement agency, Lutheran Services of Iowa (LSI) partners with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) to provide resettlement services.  In December 2021, LSI began receiving arrivals from Afghanistan and has helped with housing, initial groceries, finding jobs, and enrolling children in school plus other services as needed.  LSI is honored to work with these families along with those in other cultural communities and, with the help of the Des Moines community, will continue to welcome the world. We are stronger and more vibrant when we embrace the humanity and uphold the dignity of those seeking asylum. For more information, go to lsiowa.org/ircs

CHECKS SHOULD BE MAILED TO: DMIEC, P.O. Box 30065, Des Moines, IA 50310 Checks can be written either to “LSI” with “Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service” in the memo line or to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line. We would prefer that all checks be mailed to DMIEC. If you mail your check directly to the organization, please inform Ed Arnold of the amount, if you feel comfortable, so the Social Justice Committee can get an accurate count of donations
