Our February “First Sunday” collection recipient will be the Native American Heritage Association (“NAHA”).

Headquartered in Rapid City, South Dakota, NAHA serves the people on the Crow Creek, Lower Brule, Pine Ridge, Cheyenne River, and Rosebud Reservations, where some of the poorest counties in America are located. The first people of our continent suffer from food insecurity and hunger for many reasons, but history makes clear that European ancestors bear much of the responsibility.

     NAHA takes great care to provide Native American families with food, clothing, home goods, propane heaters, and money to buy propone to help get them through the very cold winter months. Monies also help students continue in school and be successful. 97% of NAHA’s budget goes toward program costs, so donors know their contributions benefit as many Native American families as possible.

Checks can be written either to “NAHA” or “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line. 

We would prefer that all checks be mailed to DMIEC. If you mail your check directly to the organization, please inform Ed Arnold of the amount, if you feel comfortable, so the Social Justice Committee can get an accurate count of donations.
