EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — Year C

Gospel: Luke 6:39-45

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.

Jesus also used images in speaking to them: “Can a blind person act as guide to another who is blind?  Will they not both fall into a ditch?  The student is not above the teacher, but every student, upon completion of studies, will be on a par with the teacher.”

“Why look at the speck in another’s eye when you miss the plank in your own?  How can you say to another, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye,’ yet fail yourself to see the plank lodged in your own?  Hypocrite, remove the plank from your own eye first; then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from the other’s eye.”

“A good tree does not produce decayed fruit any more than a decayed tree produces good fruit.

Each tree is known by its yield.  Figs are not taken from thorn bushes, nor grapes picked from brambles.  Those who are good produce goodness from the good in their hearts; the evil produce evil out of their store of evil.  All people speak from their heart’s abundance.”

The Good News as spoken through Luke.
