Our First Sunday collection recipient for February is Anchored Hope.

At 18, foster youth age out of the system, often without the safety net of a family or support system.  As a result, one in five young adults face immediate homelessness. In Iowa approximately 450 youth age out of foster care each year, stepping into an uncertain and challenging world.

Anchored Hope is a new faith-based transitional living program in Ames, designed for young women ages 18-24 who have aged out of foster care. Through safe housing, structured programs, and mentoring, Anchored Hope provides a pathway to help these young women realize their God-given potential. Offering a supportive community and life-skills training will help them become independent, thriving adults. The two-year program includes: Life Skills Training; Job Readiness and Education; Health and Wellness; Financial Literacy; and Community.

Anchored Hope recently purchased a six-bedroom, four-bathroom house and anticipates welcoming the first residents by July 1. The First Sunday collection will go toward furnishing the house and creating personalized welcome kits for each young woman.
