Our First Sunday collection recipient for October is Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice (IMMJ).  There is a critical need for legal services for refugees and immigrants in Des Moines and across the state. Support for IMMJ will be used in two primary areas:

  • First, to meet the urgent need for immigration legal services by providing for immigrants and refugees who are victims of crime, as well as any low-income immigrants applying for citizenship, permanent residency (green cards), humanitarian relief, family reunification, DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), and TPS (Temporary Protected Status).
  • Second, to advocate for systemic change through grassroot community organizing and civic engagement by developing leaders who want to learn how the government works and how to protect themselves and their communities against abuse in the workplace. We also work with newly naturalized U.S. citizens to ensure they are registered to vote, understand how to vote, have a plan to vote, and understand how elections work on the local, state, and federal levels.

For more information on IMMJ, visit https://www.iowammj.org.

Write checks either to “Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice” or “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line.
