L.U.N.A. (Latinas Unidas Por Un Nuevo Amanecer) Iowa was created in 1999 by a group of survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse who noticed the lack of resources available to the LatinX community in Iowa. L.U.N.A. Iowa has evolved into a statewide organization with offices in Des Moines and Marshalltown. The L.U.N.A. mission is to empower, educate, and advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse so they may build futures free of violence. Recognizing that domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking are serious problems that impact everyone, L.U.N.A strives to educate and protect families.
Checks can be written either to “L.U.N.A.” or “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line.
We would prefer that all checks be mailed to DMIEC. If you mail your check directly to the organization, please inform Ed Arnold of the amount, if you feel comfortable, so the Social Justice Committee can get an accurate count of donations. For more information, please visit L.U.N.A.’s Facebook page
