SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — Year B

First Reading: 2 Kings 4:42-44

A reading from the second book of Kings.

A messenger came from Baal-shalishah, bringing Elisha bread from the first fruits – twenty barley loaves and ears of fresh grain.  “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.  But the messenger replied, “How can I serve this to a hundred people?”  “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha insisted, “for Our God says this: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’ ” And so the people were served; they ate and had some left over, as Our God had said.

The Word of God recorded in the second book of Kings.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — Year B

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 145

R: You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Let all Your works give You thanks, O God,

and let Your faithful ones bless You.

Let them discourse of the glory of Your reign

and speak of Your might.

R: You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

The eyes of all look hopefully to You,

and You give them their food in due season;

You open Your hand

and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

R: You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Adonai, you are just in all Your ways

and holy in all Your works.

You are near to all who call upon You,

to all who call upon You in truth.

R: You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
